Nicholas G. Schlegel, Ph.D.

Nicholas Schlegel is a Detroit-based film scholar and historian. He has taught film studies and production at Wayne State University since 2004. Some of his special topic seminars include Cult Movies, Film Noir and Documentary and Non Fiction Film. Additionally, Nicholas  balances consultant work with teaching screenwriting seminars. 2015 will see the release of his new book Sex, Sadism, Spain, and Cinema: The Spanish Horror Film, from Scarecrow Press. He has contributed book chapters on Mexican horror (Mexican Horror Films: Studies in the Horror Film), Japanese horror (Draculas, Vampires, and other Undead Forms : Essays on Gender, Race, and Culture) and a chapter on Jess Franco’s Krimi output for the upcoming volume, The Films of Jess Franco. Nicholas enjoys international travel, art, history, co-hosting the podcast, That’s a Wrap! and the project of slowing framing his movie memorabilia and art collection.
